Intel CEO Andy Grove Demonstrates Supermicro's P6DNH Server Solution to European I2O™ Showcase

San Jose, Calif. (Feb. 10, 1997) - The highly acclaimed SUPER P6DNH from SUPERMICRO has been the highlight of Andy Grove’s recent IT tour in Europe. It was used with BMC’s Patrol Agent software to demonstrate the capabilities of the emerging new technology, the I2O specifications. I2O is a new architecture that is being promoted by Intel and SUPERMICRO. It significantly improves I/O performance by offloading I/O interruptions from the server processor.

"SUPERMICRO’s I2O-ready motherboard with the i960® I/O processor to implement the I2O architecture represents a new level of performance and value-added integration for mission-critical enterprise computing," said Alan Steinberg, General Manager of Intel’s Enterprise Computing I/O Operation. "The early availability of this motherboard will allow OEMs to quickly offer I2O architecture benefits to their customers."

Novell, Microsoft, and The Santa Cruz Operation are all using SUPER P6DNH-based systems to develop I2O compliant versions of their operating systems. SUPERMICRO has been offering the I2O-ready motherboard since last year. SUPERMICRO’s P6DNH was the only working I2O-ready motherboard in Intel’s intelligent I/O demo suite during COMDEX ’96.

"This was an excellent opportunity for SUPERMICRO and Intel to successfully work together for the good of both companies, and I look forward to continued cooperative efforts in the future," praised Jim Schrand, Intel’s Market Development Manager.

SUPER P6DNH is a full-AT size (13"x12") mainboard based on Intel’s 440 FX chipset. It supports dual Pentium Pro processors, i960 RP IOP, up to 1GB FPM or EDO memory, 8 PCI and 3 ISA slots, an 8Mb Flash I/O BIOS and local IOP memory of 64MB. On-board I/O includes 2 EIDE, 1 floppy, 2 serial, 1 ECP/EPP parallel, 2 USB, a PS/2 mouse port and system overheat temperature control.
