Supermicro Highlights: I20 Server Solution with Next Generation Motherboard Preview under NDA

HANNOVER, GERMANY (March 19, 1998) — SUPERMICRO, a high-end server solution provider, will be holding special preview of the next generation leading edge technology running at systems bus of 100 MHz will be available under NDA. On demonstration is a comprehensive line of the industry’s latest motherboards and server building block solutions: I20 server, 440LX motherboards with AGP and PC 98-Ready, and server chassis.

SUPERMICRO’s SUPER P6DLH with 440LX chipset, dual Pentium II 333 MHz processor and 66 MHz i960 RD I/O processor, is the first I20-Ready motherboard in the world. Alongside this highly acclaimed product, SUPERMICRO will be showing its full line of 440LX based AGP motherboards: SUPER P6DLS, P6DLE, P6DLF, P6SLE and P6SLA. This complete product line of USA-made motherboards is targeted for use in supporting 3D graphics and multimedia applications. Other AGP supporting products include SUPERMICRO’s new SUPER P5AGPV1, a Pentium MMX-based motherboard.

Live demonstrations of the motherboards will feature AGP along with PC 98-Ready. With the increasing demand for richly enhanced 3D and multimedia, AGP provides the perfect solution, supporting a maximum of 532 MB/sec 2X-transfer mode, making it four times faster than PCI. The result is a quantum leap in graphics performance and richer texture content. PC 98, the latest technology in personal computing, incorporated in SUPERMICRO motherboards, supports Microsoft’s OnNow, slow blinking LED for sleep-state indicator, BIOS support for USB keyboard, real-time clock wake-up alarm, main switch override mechanism, and external modem ring-on if system is in SoftOff state.

Housing for SUPERMICRO motherboards will be SUPERMICRO chassis SC750 series and SC730 series with redundant cooling fans. The SC750-S (AT) and SC730-A (ATX) full tower chassis are the ideal choice for the dual Pentium II server systems. For maximum reliability, both series feature an air exhaustion fan, two fan-mounting racks for hard drives and two back-up fans for system overheat temperature control. The SC730-A has a reinforced structure with efficient cooling design. It provides a higher ceiling space to accommodate the height of SDRAM memory, as it supports an ATX size motherboard with a 235W power supply. This particular series also includes an 8 cm thermal back-up fan with tachometer, 7 expansion slots, and a total of 8 drive bays.
