Supermicro Expands Line of High End Boards with 840 Chipset Releases

SAN JOSE, CA, October 25, 1999 - Supermicro's formidable line of high-end motherboard solutions has been reinforced with four dual-CPU solutions based on Intel's 840 chipset. The S2DM3 is a Slot 2 solution that supports Pentium III Xeon and Cascade processors. The Supermicro PIIIDM6, PIIIDM3 and PIIIDME all support Pentium III and II processors of up to 733 MHz and accommodate up to 4 GB of RAM. All four boards include 4 32-bit and 2 64-bit PCI slots, which run at 66 MHz.

The just released 840 chipset is Intel’s most powerful to date. In addition to 64 bit, 66 MHz PCI slots, the chipset also enables a 133/100 MHz front side bus to support the fastest Pentium processors, 4 DIMMs for up to 4 GB RAM, 4xAGP and AGP Pro for 1 GB/sec of graphics bandwidth for superb graphics performance and Ultra DMA 66 for 66 MB/sec of I/O bus bandwidth for fast hard drive access. The DIMM slots support PC100 SDRAM for a low cost memory solution. These features all represent the most advanced technology available for their specific functions.

As with their previous high-end motherboards, Supermicro has included onboard SCSI on three of the boards. The PIIIDM6 has a Symbios 53C1010 chip that provides dual channel Ultra160 SCSI. The S2DM3 and PIIIDM3 offer a slightly scaled down version, incorporating an Adaptec 7892 chip for single channel Ultra160 SCSI. At 160 MB/sec, Ultra160 is the fastest, most reliable SCSI I/O technology available today.

These two boards also include Alert on LAN 2 (AOL2), which allows you to closely monitor all the PCs on a network. It can even have your management server dial the pager of your network administrator in case of problems.

All three boards also come with Intel’s 82C559 chip for onboard Ethernet LAN that provides further network manageability without the need of a network card.

Supermicro is a leading supplier of desktop and high-end motherboards for servers and workstations. Since its founding in 1993, Supermicro has led the industry in delivering cutting-edge technology such as the first solution for the I2O architecture. Supermicro strives to build long-term relationships with its customers by providing outstanding engineering innovations, quality and reliability. Supermicro’s server building block solutions decrease systems integrators’ time-to-market by ensuring the interoperability of all components.
