ION Computer Debuts Xeon® Server System Based on Supermicro 2U

Hauppauge, NY (October 26th, 2001) - Adapting Supermicro's latest 2U server system, ION Computer Systems, Inc. today announced a new class of low-profile, rack mount server based on Intel®’s Xeon™ processors. The first product to be introduced, the IR2006X2, represents a level of performance that could not previously be achieved in a 2U (3.5” high) server. The Xeon processors that power the IR2006X2 are based on the same NetBurst™ technology as Intel’s Pentium® 4 processors and operate at speeds up to 2GHz.

“The IR2006X2 brings a new level of performance to the database, streaming-media, e-mail servers and proxy/caching servers, that was not attainable with Pentium III processors,” says Paul Scheremeta, Vice President of Marketing at ION. “We believe ION is the first to incorporate this technology into a 2U rack-mountable chassis.”

“ION is especially excited about deploying this new server in clusters,” according to Keith Josephson, ION’s Vice President of Engineering. “For organizations requiring the power of large Linux clusters, the IR2006X2 reaches levels of performance density and price/performance that could not be achieved with earlier products.”

In addition to performance, which is unsurpassed in a 2U rack mount server, the IR2000X2 also offers superior expandability, with capacity for six (6) hot swappable Ultra160 SCSI disks and six (6) low profile PCI slots. The server can be completely designed, priced and ordered online using ION’s Configurator.

For 10 years, ION has developed desktop and server products designed to help customers take the earliest advantage of new technologies and new levels of performance. To learn more about ION and this new server visit us at: www.ioncomputer.com
