Workstation Boards & Optimized Low-noise Workstation Chassis
The Intel® E7505 Chipset-Based Boards Offer Newest Performance Standards; Features Include 8xAGP, PCI-X 133, DDR-266, Ultra 320 SCSI, G-bit LAN and More
SAN JOSE, CA – (Nov. 18, 2002) – Super Micro Computer, Inc., a leader in the design and manufacture of server solutions
and motherboards, today announced it has begun shipping the X5DA8
and X5DAE;
two workstation boards coinciding with the official release of the
new Intel® E7505 chipset. Both boards support next generation Intel
Xeon processors with 533 MHz system bus and Hyper-Threading Technology
for ultra-fast data processing. In addition, SuperMicro has designed
a new class of chassis that optimizes these boards for the workstation
environment. The SC742S-550 (SCSI) and SC742i-450
(IDE) are tower chassis with impressive low noise level characteristics.
Both include a high-availability 550/450W patented redundant cooling
power supply and the latest thermal control technology.
The X5DA8/X5DAE support two Intel Xeon processors with clock speeds as high as 2.8 GHz. Both boards have been designed with the workstation and high-end desktop in mind, with such features as AGP 8X, 64-bit PCI-X 133/100 MHz slots, support for up to 12 GB of ECC registered DDR-266 SDRAM and an Intel 82545EM Gigabit Ethernet controller. The X5DA8 also incorporates an Adaptec 7902 dual channel Ultra 320 SCSI controller and support for Zero Channel SCSI RAID support.
“Supermicro is proud to be at the forefront of offering Intel E7505-based
workstation platforms in production volume to provide the industry
with emerging technology as it is released,” said Charles Liang,
CEO and founder of Supermicro. “Our new workstation chassis, designed
specifically for these next-generation boards, provide high-availability
as well as full performance and functionality at a barely audible
noise level – perfect for the workspace and home.”
Advanced Performance Features The X5DA8 and X5DAE are currently shipping. Based on the Intel E7505 chipset, these two boards support up to six DIMMs for registered ECC DDR-266 SDRAM memory configurations up to 12GB in size, and offer an AGP 8X Pro 1.5V slot, one 64-bit/133 Mhz and two 64-bit/100 MHz PCI-X and two 32-bit PCI slots. The boards carry six USB 2.0 ports as well as a Gigabit LAN Ethernet port, and feature AC’97 CODEC; the X5DA8 also offers dual-channel U320 SCSI and ZCR SCSI RAID support. Applications: ideal for graphics intensive applications, medical imaging, 3D animation and video servers.
