SuperMicro to Unveil Serial ATA Storage and Server Solutions at CeBIT
Serial ATA External RAID Solutions and Serial ATA RAID 5 Server
March 11, 2003 – Super Micro Computer, Inc., a
leader in the design and manufacture of server solutions and motherboards,
announced it will showcase two Serial ATA RAID solutions at the
CeBIT show in Hannover, Germany. On display will be the SW7033A-T,
a high-end mini-tower server/workstation, and Supermicro’s new SC942
storage chassis complete with 15 Serial ATA drives. Both solutions
will be working demos at the show. Supermicro will be located in
Hall 22, Stand B14, Booth A9-A12.
The SC942 is a versatile, high-end chassis that can accommodate up to 15 SCSI or Serial ATA hard drives, making it ideal for extreme data-intensive applications. The system at CeBIT will feature a full complement of 15 Serial ATA drives with a RAID 5 configuration, state-of-the-art I SCSI interface and the industry-leading X5DP8-G2 serverboard. The X5DP8-G2 supports dual Xeon® processors with clock speeds up to 3.06 GHz at a 533 MHz front side bus, supports up to 16 GB of interleaved DDR-266/200 SDRAM in 8 DIMM sockets, provides six PCI-X slots, a dual Gigabit Ethernet controller, an IPMI 1.5 (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) option and onboard graphics.
"The SC942 chassis is a revolutionary design for high-end DP server systems", notes Charles Liang, President and CEO of SuperMicro. "The large number of hard drives in conjunction with the X5DP8-G2’s high I/O bandwidth, impressive onboard memory capacity and dual Xeon processors offers a system that is truly remarkable. This is the ultimate server for applications that demand the most in both performance and storage capacity."
Also on display at Supermicro’s booth will be the SuperWorkstation
7033A-T, a high-end server/workstation based on the new SC733T chassis
and the X5DAL-TG2 motherboard. The 7033A-T represents the new workstation
standard, with four Serial ATA hard drives with RAID 5 feature,
dual Intel Xeon processors with clock speeds as high as 3.06 GHz,
AGP8x, 64-bit PCI-X 133/100 MHz slots, support for up to 8 GB of
ECC registered DDR-266 SDRAM and an Intel 82545EM Gigabit Ethernet
controller. The 7033A-T also includes 450 watts of redundant cooled
power and a super silent airflow design to reduce system noise in
the workspace.
In addition to the above two systems, Supermicro plans in April
to release both 3U and 1U Serial ATA external storage products,
which will feature up to 3 terabytes and 1 terabyte storage capacities,
respectively.
Serial ATA Serial ATA is a disk-interface technology that was developed to replace parallel ATA (today’s IDE type drives). Serial ATA is a point-to-point connection that allows multiple ports to be shared by a single controller. Through backplanes and external enclosures, Serial ATA will be deployed in high-capacity server and networked-storage environments. The scalable features of Serial ATA combined with desktop price-points translate into greater storage capacity at a lower total solution cost compared to traditional SCSI server and networked storage. In terms of performance, Serial ATA technology will deliver 1.5 Gbps (150 MB/sec) of performance to each drive within a disk drive array.
