Supermicro 3U JBOD Supports 14 Hot-swap SCSI Drives in a Single Channel
High-Density SC932S1 Optimized for Large-scale Storage

San Jose, CA, April 11, 2005 – Supermicro Computer has launched its new SC932S1 single-channel rackmount chassis for high-density storage solutions. This new 3U chassis supports up to 14 hot-swap SCSI drives in a single channel, which makes it one of the most dense storage subsystems available in the industry.

Already an impressive Xeon server chassis, the addition of Supermicro’s JBPWR2 card makes the SC932S1 an enticing high-density JBOD solution. Superior reliability and availability are ensured with a triple-redundant 760-watt power supply and four heavy-duty, hot-swappable cooling fans. At about half the cost of current storage systems offered by competitors, the Supermicro SC932S1 has conclusively raised the bar for cost-effective high-density storage solutions.

Supermicro has further refined the SC932S1 by increasing the viable SCSI cable length to more than 12 meters without additional signal repeaters. Most storage solutions on the market today lose signal integrity with cables longer than 1 or 2 meters, which severely limits the connectivity between multiple storage cabinets. This new Supermicro storage solution eliminates these issues to greatly facilitate the deployment of massive storage systems.

This Supermicro JBOD solution is ideal for large-scale storage solutions, especially in academic and governmental data centers. JBOD solutions are much more cost-effective than fiber channel solutions and offer the mature technology advantages provide with SCSI.

"SCSI JBOD has been a popular storage technology for the past decade. It plays an important role in providing effective storage solutions to cost-sensitive customers who need reasonable reliability and better performance," says Tau Leng, Director of System Validation and Qualification at Supermicro. "Now, through offering the SC932S1 SCSI JBOD breakthrough design with even more aggressive pricing structure, Supermicro is truly driving the technology into the cost-sensitive spectrum. Customers can enjoy a high quality, trouble-free storage solution at impressively lower costs."

As enterprise storage needs continue to expand in 2005, Supermicro is providing its partners with the most technologically advanced storage systems available. Their partners can now offer these innovations in one of the most dense storage solutions available with the Supermicro SC932S1 JBOD system.

SC932S1-R760
Optimized for JBOD applications, this 3U chassis supports 14 hot-swappable SCSI drive bays via a single-channel SCSI backplane with SAF-TE. Powered by a triple-redundant 760-watt power supply, the SC932S1 also features four hot-swappable 9-cm cooling fans for enhanced thermal control. At 5.2" x 17.7" with a depth of 25.5", the SC932S1 weighs in at 72 pounds (packaged) and is available in both beige and black. The versatile SC932S1 also comes equipped with a JBOD power control board, rackmount rails and an external SCSI port.
