Supermicro Launches Record-Breaking Lineup of Dual-Core Xeon Servers with up to 64GB FBD Memory Support
Complete High-Performing, Dual-Core and Low-Power Server SolutionsBased on Intel® Xeon™ 5000/5100 series (formerly "Dempsey/Woodcrest") CPUs
San Jose, CA, May 23, 2006 - Furthering its reputation for being first-to-market with new server technologies, Supermicro has introduced the industry's first and most comprehensive line of dual-core Xeon 5000 and 5100 series server solutions. These next-generation dual-core Xeon servers feature a 1333MHz FSB and use FBD (fully buffered DIMM) memory. With more than 30 new motherboards scheduled for release this month and over 30 new optimized chassis models, Supermicro is offering a record-breaking selection of high-quality, reliable dual-core Xeon 5000/5100 server solutions.
"For many applications, our new server solutions deliver double the performance, consume less power than previous Xeon servers, and require users to pay no price premium," notes Charles Liang, President and CEO of Supermicro. "Some of our customers are already enjoying this new generation of server technology, and now is the best time for our customers to stock up. We anticipate strong demand for server solutions based on the new generation Dempsey and Woodcrest processors, and Supermicro is well positioned to deliver these exceptionally high-performance platforms right away."
Supermicro's new server solutions support both the new Xeon 5000 and next-generation 5100 CPUs with a 1333MHz FSB to deliver better value and greater system stability to customers. These new dual-core server solutions are packed with exceptional features and offer significantly better performance and performance per watt over their predecessors.
"Supermicro is supporting an extensive portfolio of high-quality solutions based on the new Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor 5000 series," said Kirk Skaugen, vice president, Digital Enterprise Group at Intel Corporation. "These new Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors are expected to improve server responsiveness and provide energy efficient performance while reducing total cost of ownership."
Consistently a leader in server technology development, some of Supermicro's new dual-core Dempsey/Woodcrest systems support up to 64 GB of ECC DDR2 fully buffered memory via 16 DIMM slots. Based on the Super X7DB8+ serverboard, the SuperServer 7045-8R+ supports 3 PCI-Express x8 and 3 PCI-X-133/100 slots along with dual gigabit LAN ports. Housed in Supermicro's state-of-the-art SC745S2-R800 chassis, it provides eight Ultra320 SCSI hot-swap drive bays and redundant cooling fans with fan speed control. Its redundant 800-watt high-efficiency power supply performs at approximately 5% higher efficiency than today's industry standard server power supplies meaning customers can realize net energy savings of up to $200 per server over 3 years.
All of Supermicro's new server platforms come equipped with Supermicro Intelligent Management (SIM) support featuring IPMI 2.0 server remote management with virtual media over LAN and optional KVM-Over-LAN support. SIM enables server administrators to view a server's hardware status remotely, receive an alarm automatically if a failure occurs, and power cycle a system that is non-responsive.
In addition to the products mentioned above, Supermicro's product offerings optimized for dual-core Dempsey and next-generation Woodcrest processors also include:
