Question
On X8SIL-F using i3-540 processor and using CentOS 6.4, an error message "Your BIOS is broken; DMAR reported at address fed93000 returns all ones!" is seen during startup. This was seen even after upgrading to latest BIOS R1.2a.

Is this a BIOS bug?
Answer
Error message is generated because the Intel VT-d setting is enabled in BIOS for I3-540. I3-540 does not support Intel VT-d -- Intel Virtualizationt Technology for Directed I/O. If a processor supporting VT-d is used such as X3470 CPU, then enabling Intel VT-d would not generate error message. Otherwise, Intel VT-d has to be disabled in BIOS to suppress message.
