Question

On X10S board, BIOS only shows 1 core when CPU has multiple Active cores so I re-flashed BIOS by closing pins 2-3 on JPME2 per FAQ instructions below:

http://www.supermicro.com/support/faqs/faq.cfm?faq=17137

but I see error message afterwards: Error when sending Enable Message to ME. Is this normal?

Answer
Yes, it is expected. Closing pins 2-3 forces system to operate in Manufacturer Mode which prevents communication with BIOS ME. Resetting JPME2 to pins 1-2 is required for normal operation. If BIOS ME is updated successfully, you should see ME FW status and SPS version updated in BIOS under Intel Platform Server Services. There will be more Active cores enabled in BIOS as well.
