Question
The manual of the X9DRT-HF+ says there is a PCI-E 3.0 x8 Slot for add on cards. A PCI-E 3.0 x8 Slot measures 56mm, the slot on the Supermicro X9DRT-HF+ measures 39mm equaling a PCI-E 3.0 x4 Slot. Can you explain this?
Answer

Please find the explanation of the slots below We have also mentioned this in the product manual. The board has slots as below
(CPU1) Slot1 PCI-E 3.0 x8 Slot for SMC-Proprietary Daughter (Add-On) Card This slot is used to plug a daughter card which connects the board to the system backplane to access the drives and the control board. It provides hot-swap functionality to the chassis. This is a proprietary slot and made for the daughter card BPN-ADP-E16-L
(CPU1) Slot2 PCI-E 3.0 x8 Slot for SMC-Proprietary Micro Low-Profile (LP) Card This is also a proprietary slot made only for our Add-on cards. Only Supermicro Micro LP cards can fit in this slot. . Other cards cannot be used in this slot. Supermicro Micro LP cards http://www.supermicro.nl/products/nfo/networking.cfm?show=SELECT&form=MicroLP#adapter
