I am attempting to set up a configuration for Storage Spaces direct using a supermicro 847 rackmount chassis(unknown specific chassis, however the backplanes are the BPN-SAS2-846EL2 and BPN-SAS2-826EL2)
We are attempting to configure the HBAs (two Avago 9300-8i) in a failover configuration, however upon reading the manual, it appears that in order to achieve this with an HBA, you need to have Multipath software installed(per your manual) which storage spaces direct does not support according to their hardware requirements.
I was wondering if you can point me into the right direction on how to get this set up for Storage Spaces Direct. Is there a way to implement failover without MPIO on the HBAs or am I going to need to run a single cable per backplane?
(1) Storage Space Direct, S2D, is supported in single back-plane platform. It is not supported in 2+ backplanes’.
(2) Hardware can configure failed-over connections, but you’ll need to check with OS for management.
