Intel made its official launch of its 3rd generation Xeon Scalable processor based upon its 10nm process for enterprise and data center applications. The product line can provide up to 40 cores per processer and up to 2.65 times higher performance gain over a 5-year-old system.
Like clockwork, the major data center original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) announced a torrent of new server chassis built around Intel’s Ice Lake Xeon Scalable processors. The new processors, announced this morning, deliver a 20% uplift in instructions per clock over the previous generation, but for OEMs, Intel’s new third-gen Xeons deliver more than a performance boost.
Intel launched a new batch of third-generation Xeon server processors today. Significantly, these are Ice Lake processors—meaning Intel's 10 nm process, not the increasingly outdated 14 nm process that the majority of Intel's lineup has been stuck on for many years now.
