Solution Architecture
The Supermicro Nebulon solution is powered by a PCIe-based card called the Nebulon Services Processing Unit (SPU) that is pre-installed on Supermicro’s Ultra platform. The SPU runs a full stack of enterprise data services for shared or local storage applications, connects directly to the SSDs inside the server, and provides all the storage services needed for bare metal, VMware or Linux-based applications running on that server. The entire clustered solution, either on-premises or at the edge is managed with a cloudbased control plane called Nebulon ON.

Nebulon Cyber-resilience
- Nebulon cloud management access separates command and control functions and remain online and available to initiate recovery
- When infrastructure becomes infected, the management system (offpremises) can direct local recovery services (in a secure domain or ‘panic room’) to roll back to pre-attack operating system and application images
- Reduce emerging threat vectors within deep infrastructure by keeping server software deployments consistent up front and over time by routinely and automatically reverting to known, good ‘immutable’ server software images
Nebulon Services Processing Unit (SPU)
Unlike PCIe accelerators that only offload specific storage functions, SPUs run the entire suite of enterprise data services that external storage arrays run.
