Question
Why can't I install FreeBSD 4.4 into an IDE hard drive using Intel(R) E7500 and E7501 boards?

Answer
The reason why this system does not recognize ATA/100 IDE hard drive is because FreeBSD 4.4 is not Ultra-DMA capable while BIOS always enables this mode. To workaround this issue, you must go into BIOS and disable "Ultra DMA Mode" under [Main] menu. This workaround also works in FreeBSD 4.5 if you have the same issue.
