Question
During installation of Ubuntu LTS Server OS (several versions) the IPMI KVM screen changes to non-standard resolution of 648x481 which makes KVM unusable.
Can the resolution be changed or forced not to use 648x481 resolution ?
Answer
This issue only has been seen using Ubuntu LTS Server OS
please refer to following workaround:
Disable the framebuffer display by adding to the boot options:
vga16fb.modeset=0
To enter this option, press F6 for "Other Options", ESC to exit the popup and enter the text after the "--".
Also, after the installation, the console screen will have the same issue. This can be solved by editing/creating:
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer.conf
And adding the a line containing:
blacklist vga16fb
