I wonder if 2027R-WRF has the same backplane connector (Mini-SAS
SFF8087) as in 2027R-E1R24L.

Yes. The 2027R-WRF server uses "A" direct backplane which supports Mini-Ipass (SFF-8087) connector. You need to use 16ports raid controller with 6 SFF-8087 cables to complete 16ports drives support.
