Question
We are using this 16GB kit of Crucial DDR3-12800 UDIMM (4 x 4GB) on your X8SAX. We put in 3 blue colored slots and one of black colored slot, but system only sees 8 GB. In the past we used Hynix DDR3 on exact same slots without problem. Is there any fix?

Answer
12800 RAM is 1600 Mhz, which may have problem with X8SAX:
http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon3000/x58/x8sax.cfm
as this board mainly supports:

Memory Capacity
• Supports up to 24 GB 1333 / 1066 / 800MHz DDR3 ECC / non-ECC Un-Buffered memory
• Three Channel memory bus
• 6 DIMM sockets

Memory Type
• 1333 / 1066 / 800MHz Un- Buffered ECC / non-ECC DDR3 SDRAM 72-bit, 240-pin gold-plated DIMMs

Also you can refer to our memory reference table linked below:
http://www.supermicro.com/support/resources/memory/X8_DP_DIMM_population.pdf
So I don’t think BIOS update would do any good. Suggest to change to 1333( 10600 ) or below Mhz to avoid issue.
