 I have some X9DRH-iTF boards and I want to update my IPMI, but I noticed there is a new unique password feature due to the SB327 laws.


My question is this, my server is in a remote location, so if I update the IPMI remotely via the Web GUI, how will I know what my new Unique password is?  There was no sticker on this board because it's an old board, and I can't physically get to the machine to run ipmicfg.


How should I go about upgrading this IPMI remotely without risk of locking myself out.. and also how can I discover my unique password when doing the upgrade?

The X9 motherboards are EOL (end of life) and don’t have unique password firmware support. The unique password is hardcoded into the BMC chip.
We implemented a unique password feature for the BMC firmware stack on all new X10, X11, H11, H12, and all future generation Supermicro products.
So, updating your IPMI firmware will not affect your password and will not assign unique password.
During the update if the IPMI reset to factory default, then you can just use default log in we use to have ADMIN/ADMIN.
