Fans
Fan speed is controlled by a system temperature setting in BMC. If a fan fails, the remaining fans will ramp up to full speed. Replace any failed fan at your earliest convenience with the same type and model.
Changing a System Fan
-
Determine which fan is failing. If possible, use BMC. If not, remove the chassis cover while the power is on, and examine the fans to determine which one has failed.
-
Remove power from the system.
-
Remove the fan cable from the midplane for the failed fan.
-
Lift the fan housing up and out of the chassis.
-
Push the fan up from the bottom.
-
Put the new fan back into the chassis and reconnect the cable.
-
Power on the system to confirm that the fan is working properly before replacing the chassis cover.
