We have a 24-drive chassis with your SAS2 backplane, an X8DTH-6F board with the LSI2008 SAS2 on-board controller attached to the backplane and Hitachi 4TB drives (x24). We are using the 24 internal drives in a JBOD-fashion as individual drives. Why any of the on-board SAS2 drives past 16 devices will just 'drop out' from the boot order list?

Yes, for IT mode (JBOD), the X8DTH-6F with the LSI2008 SAS2 on-board controller can support up to 16 HDD that why any drive drives past 16 devices will 'drop out' from the boot order list.
