Question
I have a X9DRI-F motherboard. The max payload in the bios does support up to 2k but the root complex only supports 256 bytes. The only configuration the mother board can accept is 128 bytes or 256 bytes regardless of the setting in the bios. Could you please provide more information?

Answer
It should be OK. BIOS will check the max payload size from root port to endpoint. BIOS will choose the minimum value that all of the devices could support and apply it. Even 2K payload size is chosen, it will end up with 256 bytes or 128 bytes.
