I have your X7DWE motherboard and configured a RAID level 1 array. I can not figure how to configure the bios to boot from a SATA CD drive to load the Windows OS. So what are my options and if I replaced the SATA CDROM drive with an IDE version would that work?

Yes and IDE CDROM drive is your best option when the SATA controller is set for RAID mode.
