If we connect the Supermicro 10Gb Card that has 2 ports to the Supermicro SSE-G24-TG4 1/10G switch are we able to bond the links on the switch side, if so what type of bonding will it support?
“Bonding” is often used as another term for Link Aggregation. The term “Bonding” is more popular on the Operating System side as most of the link aggregation (trunking) commands use the word bonding.
So we consider “Bonding” on the OS side of the link and “Link Aggregation” on the Switch. This can be done on the switch – we support up to 24 “groups” of aggregated links with up to 8 members of each group. These numbers may seem rather high for a 24 + 4 switch, but when you “stack” them it begins to look more relevant.
Aggregated links do need to be operating at the same speed. Thus the maximum aggregated group of 10Gbps links would have four members. Your configuration of two 10G links is definitely achievable.
A little further about the Link Aggregation capability:
- We support both static and dynamic Link Aggregation.
- On dynamic we can configure to be active or passive.
- We support load balancing based on one or more of the following parameters:
* source MAC,
* destination MAC,
* source IP,
* destination IP,
* VLAN ID,
* port channel ID.
