Question
We have many Supermicro Super Servers in our data center and have added a 5015P-TR with an IPMI 2.0 card and are having issues. All functions of the IMPI card are operational, but when the IPMI card is installed we can not ping the gateway. We use the exact same setup procedure we used with your other systems that have Broadcom LAN adapters. Is this the correct procedure to use?
Answer
The IPMI setup is quite different between systems that have Broadcom and Intel LAN adapters. The IPMI setup on systems with a Broadcom LAN must have a different MAC and IP address for the IMPI card. Systems with an Intel LAN adapter the IPMI card must have the same MAC and IP address as LAN 1. Please reconfigure you IPMI card and after this is complete you must remove the system from AC input power since the system always has standby power unless the power supply input source is removed.
