Several vendors of your products claim that use can use both SATA and SAS with chassis SC836E1-R800V / SC836E1-R800B. But the manuel clearly say's (on page 5-1 and in Appendix C: SAS-836EL Backplane Specifications, C-5, 9-14. SAS Ports)SAS drives only?
When you use a qualified harddisk and controller (see SAS expender matrix), sata is no problem.
