Can I use the IR firmware in any X7 or X8 motherboard that has the LSI 1068E SAS controller onboard?

No, not all of the motherboard can use the IR firmware. The motherboards or RAID cards supported are: X7QC3, B7DC3 & AOC-USAS-L8iR.
