Question
Could you please tell me what’s the issue that SATA controller on f.e. on this m/b X8Dai supports RAID5 under Windows and doesn’t support it under Linux OS?
If I use this m/b instead of X8DAL-3 and connect those SATA (or SAS) HDDs will it support RAID5 under Linux?

Answer
The reason why Intel RAID does not support Linux is simply because Intel does not provide RAID driver for Linux.
X8DAL-3 is also using Intel ICH10R SATA controller, there’s no difference using X8Dai or X8DAL-3.

For X8DAL-3, if you change SATA HDD to SAS HDD, and using onboard LSI 1068E SAS RAID controller, then Yes, you can get RAID 5 support but you will need an extra part: AOC-IButton68
