Question
When the 3ware raid card is connected to the RSC-R1UU-XR side of the riser on X7DBU motherboard, we get acceptable performance, 70+mb/sec to a single disk.

When the same 3ware raid card is connected to the RSC-R1UU-AXE8 side of the riser we get poor read and write performance. We're seeing ~20mb/sec for both read and write on both the 2tb mirror and the single SSD. It appears that there is a bottleneck of ~20mb/sec being introduced by the RSC-R1UU-AXE8 riser

Answer
The RSC-R1UU-XR is a passive riser card, and RSC-R1UU-AXE8 is an active Riser Card, which will take pci-e signal to PLX chip and convert the signal to pci-x. There is an incompatibility between the 3ware 9500s-4lp controller and PLX chin on RSC-R1UU-AXE8. You may upgrade the card for better interface.
