We are currently thinking about a large installation of at least 300 HDD. We're also thinking about using the SC847E26-RJBOD1. How are we notified about failure? E.g. a FAN?

For fault management on all storage enclosures on Fan failures, thermal over-run and raid rebuild etc; the industry standard is SES2 protocol. SES2 protocol is implemented in-band thru SFF-8087 signal path. For our SC847 JBOD, the LSI MSM will monitor Fan failures when you install LSI MegaRaid Storage Management tools.
