We are going to build a new server, and was thinking about the following configuration:
QTY ITEM
1 Supermicro SYS-6027R-N3RF4+
2 Intel Xeon E5 1660 3.30GHZ-6C 12T 15M 130W S2011
8 Hynix HMT31GR7CFR4C-PB 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600
8 Seagate Constellation 2 TB SAS 6GB/S Hard Drive
2 Intel SSD Boot Drives (SATA?)
My questions are regarding the hard drives. I’d like to boot from two SSD drives and put my data on 8 2TB RAID 5 SAS drives.
1. Can this be done?
2. Do I need to buy a separate RAID controller? If so, which one would you recommend for this configuration?
3. I don’t see any SSD drives in your approved hard drive list for this system. Do you not recommend any SSD drives?
Onboard SAS does not have RAID 5 option.
And only 2 ports on this board support 6 Gbps, alternatively you may add a 6Gbps card.
