Question
The X8SIE-F/X8SI6-F motherboard was working normally with a Xeon X3450 processor with a registered ECC memory. However, after I changed the processor to a Core i3-540, the system does not boot anymore. Why?

Answer
In the X8SIxx motherboard platform, the memory controller is embedded in the processor. Core i3 series processors only support ECC un-buffered memory, not registered memory support. Quad-Core Xeon processor supports both ECC un-buffered and ECC Registered memory.
