Question
I am building 2 servers with 847E1 and 847E16 chassis. Both systems use X8ST3-F and two 3ware 9690SA. The 847E1 system works fine. The 847E16 server just hangs during boot up. I move the motherboard, 2 controller cards and cables from 847E16 to 847E1 then everything works fine. So it is not a bad motherboard, bad controller cards or bad cables. Cannot figure out why 847E16 cannot work with 3ware 9690SA. Please advice how to solve the issue.

Have you tried a SAS-2 card instead of SAS-1? Please see qualified list at http://www.supermicro.com/products/nfo/files/storage/SAS-1-CompList.pdf
9690 is not in SAS-2 list.
