We use watchdog to reboot a X9SRL_F server that hangs. Can you tell me what the WatchDog function setting in the BIOS is for and if that is the same as the watchdog that is in the IPMI? If the BIOS is disabled, will the watchdog fail to reboot the system?
When enabled in BIOS, the watchdog function only works before the OS loads. After the OS loads,
the Watchdog function is then handled by the OS. IPMI watchdog function should be able to handle
both during boot up and in OS. The BIOS watch dog timer will allow the system to automatically reboot
when a non-recoverable error occurs that lasts for more than five minutes when enabled.
In IPMI, you are able to set the timer function to your preference instead of the BIOS' fixed timer.
