Question
The onboard LSI 1068e SAS controller on your SBI-7425C-S3 blade comes with SR mode firmware as default. We have Linux CentOS 5.2 installed on the blade currently and would like to upgrade to CentOS 5.3 without losing the existing configuration or data. Is this possible?

Answer
For SR mode, it is not possible for you to upgrade the OS to a newer version without losing the existing data. You will need to re-install the OS and supply the corresponding drivers while loading the OS.

But, if you are using IR mode (Firmware can be flashed on motherboards that have NVRAM), it is possible to upgrade to the newer version without losing the existing data. All the newer linux kernels have the IR mode drivers embedded.
