We have an X8DTU motherboard that we are trying to PXE boot from an Acronis server so we can image it. As soon as the PXE boot happens we get an error "At least 512 of conventional memory required to start Acronis Loader" and it fails. We PXE boot Acronis on lots of different systems and do not receive this message. We are using the latest BIOS from 11/25/10. Below is my dialog with Acronis. Please see the result of their findings. We are both in agreement that this seems to be a BIOS problem. We had to ship the units so we don't have any here to troubleshoot with but we will be getting some more in the future so I want to try to fix this.
"PXE-E00: This system does not have enough free conventional memory. The Intel Boot Agent cannot continue.
System does not have enough free memory to run PXE image. The Intel Boot Agent was unable to find enough free base memory (below 640K) to install the PXE client software. The system cannot boot via PXE in its current configuration. The error returns control to the BIOS and the system does not attempt to remote boot. If this error persists, try updating your system's BIOS to the most-recent version.
Contact your system administrator or your computer vendor's customer support to resolve the problem."
Can you let me know what the fix would be for this?
The system memory is 640KB. It's very hard to allocate 512KB for the PXE loader, unless we build the OEM BIOS to turn off some option ROM space. Could you check if there is any memory management option in Acronis to make use of the high memory area between 640KB and 1MB.
