I have a few units of X8SIU Supermicro mainboards and I am experiencing some issues with the PWM fan speed in a SC515-280UB chassis. The fan speed controls is set to "Energy Saving" mode. Some of the units are only running at around 1700+ RPM as reported by the sensors. When they're running for a long period of time, I get an alarm of fan failure and they all starts running full speed at 12000+ RPM. I can only reduce back the fan speed by a reboot. I would like to find out, what are the threshold/triggers for the fan speed to increase?
The highest fan speed for the FAN-0088L4 in SC515-280UB chassis is 120000 RPM. With "Energy Saving" mode set, the lowest RPM should still be at 3600 RPM (30% of the duty cycle). When one or more fan’s speed drops down below 700 RPM, it will be considered a fan-fail situation, and hence the rest of fans will spin up to full speed.
