Can you please advise if there is a fan control when all the fans in the chassis are plugged into the backplane? Also how does this work exactly?

Fan speed is controlled by the expander, not by the controller. In fact, the controller could only read fan speed and fan status via the expander. If the expander doesn’t report fan speed/status to the controller, the controller will get nothing – for instance, if all fans are connected to the MB, and user could put a jumper on the backplane to disable fan speed reporting, then the controller will not get any fan failure alert.
