On your 10-Gigabit pass-through network module for the Blade system, it is noted that it is 10-Gigabit and it does not auto-negotiate. However as we were not able to find the vendor of the chipset (Broadcom?) what is the behavior when plugged into Cisco 1-Gigabit port, would it auto-negotiate at 1-Gigabit or simply not recognize the connection?
There really isn’t a chipset in the 10G Pass-Through. It is strictly that, a pass-through. There is no way of passing the speed-negotiating signaling to the NIC card (which is itself based on the Mellanox ConnectX chip). So if the Cisco (or other) switch attempts to connect at or negotiate down to 1G it just will not recognize the connection.
