Question
We are currently trying to configure a fully loaded SC847E26-RJBOD1 and Adaptec RAID 5085 controller. It seems like the controller will only recognize the drives in the front of the unit or the back of the unit, but never both simultaneously when both external SAS cables are attached. It does recognize two "enclosure management devices" (SAS2X36) when both cables are plugged in. It seems that the equivalent front and rear drives are given the same "identity" i.e. Enclosure 0, Drive 0 represents both Drive 0 in the front and Drive 0 in the back.

Answer
For some reason, their BPN has a mix WWN address. Please contact technical support to get the MFG image files for both 847 (rear) and 846 (front) backplanes.

Few points need to be paid attention to:
(1) Please do the flashing one backplane at a time (i.e. if you want do flashing for front backplane, you need unplug the IPASS cable connects to the rear, or vice versa);
(2) After the Xtools program is launched, using 'MFG' tab on the Xtools windows to re-flash the EEPROM, NOT the 'FIRMWARE' tab;
(3) After both backplanes are re-flashed, power down the whole chassis and wait for at least 10 seconds, power up again, and we believe the problem will go away.
