Question
My system is hung-up on RHEL ES 4 UP6 32 bit during boot up stage. It shows error message "CPU#20 not responding- cannot use it" even I just installed one processor in CPU socket1. The MB is X8DTU-F, CPU E5640, and BIOS revison is the current one from your product page. Any idea?
Here are more error messages FYI.

Answer
The symptom seems like the kernel 2.6.9-67.ELsmp of RHEL4.6 needs two processors to avoid APIC of CPU #20 no responding. Per confirming that the problem can be fixed with RHEL4.7. Please use two processors instead of one for RHEL4.6, or upgrade kernel.
