Question
I am trying to determine if my understanding is correct that this motherboard (X8DTT-HF) can only take 48GB memory
Per manual :
Memory
Twelve 240-pin DIMM sockets support up to 48 GB of DDR3 Registered ECC •
or 24 GB of Un-buffered ECC/Non-ECC 1333/1066/800 MHz Memory (with max.
4 GB of Registered ECC and 2 GB of Un-buffered memory per DIMM slot.) (See Section in Chapter 2 for DIMM Slot Population.)

I already have 6 x 8GB = 48GB total, was interested to see if I could add 6 x 8GB more modules for a total of 92GB, in case there was a newer revision of the motherboard firmware that would allow something like that. (I currently have rev2.0)

Answer
The motherboard can support up to 192gb of ram. Add more memory module which is can be done but you need to install second processors. (6 DIMMS per CPU).
