I have noticed that on the X8SIE-LN4 board the i5 series CPU doesn't list as being supported, and the BIOS generates a warning on boot. Is it just missing microcode? What would it take to have it supported?

Core i5 series processors are not supported on the X8SIE series motherboards by any chance. This is because Intel mentioned that the 3420 chipset inside the X8SIE motherboard is not supporting any Core i5 or i7 processor. It is not because of missing micro code in the BIOS.
