The Customer has two Seagate drives in a raid 1 using the onboard Adaptec RAID. Customer was trying to rebuild array while the OS is up but cannot get the Adaptec storage manager utility to work.(Chipset is AMD SP5100)
Please see the /var/log/dmesg, if RAID1 is in the right condition then we can’t see the individual disks from /var/log/dmesg, but your customer's system is not in that condition. That means the original RAID1 had something wrong so the RAID recovery won’t work.
Here is how to create and check the Embedded RAID from Linux.
1. Change CMOS setting to enable RAID
2. Go to Adaptec RAID utility and set up the RAID – RAID0, RAID1 or RAID10
3. Install Linux with RAID device driver – ex : linux dd

4. Linux boot and login
5. type “fdisk -l" and check the quantity of disk
: RAID0, 1 and 10 case, Only one disk should be displayed from ‘fdisk -l' command
