Question
We have a number of systems using the X9DRI motherboards. I’ve noticed that via IPMI I can set the fan speed between Optimal, Full, or standard. Is there a way to set the fans to specific RPMs via IPMI? These systems are not using SM chassis and the deployment requires that noise be moderated. They are running a Linux operating system.

IPMI shows that the fans are spinning at 3300 RPM while in the “full” setting. They spin down to 2400 RPM in the “standard” setting. I would like more control over this. Are there any other Linux based tools that I can use for this?

Answer
No. We only provide preset modes for the safety of the equipment. These modes have speeds that we set based on our chassis and testing in the lab, that ensures the best operating conditions.
