Question
I purchased a USAS-L4i and found its firmware is IR mode, but the user manual of USAS-L4i only mentions the instruction for SR mode. Why did you change the firmware to IR from SR?

Answer
We've changed the firmware to IR mode since 2009/2/25. Integrated RAID (IR) provides three RAID levels, Integrated Striping (IS), Mirroring (IM) and Mirroring Enhanced (IME). The IM/IME uses the same device drivers as the standard based controllers, providing seamless and transparent fault tolerance. This eliminates the need for complex backup software. The IM/IME feature operates independently from the operating system and saves system resources. The maximum support for this IR mode is up to 63 hard disk drives under an expander topology. IME volumes can have three to ten mirrored disks. Two volumes can have up to 12 disks total. (Requires Integrated RAID firmware v1.20.00 or above.)

Please have the instruction on page 7-6 for creating IM and IME volumes,

The user manual of USAS-L4i will be soon updated and we be posted on our website
