I wanted to order FAN-042 and was told that this fan had been discontinued and replaced with FAN-042LP. What is the difference between these 2 fans?

The major difference is size. FAN-042 is a few millimeters taller than FAN-042LP. FAN-042LP can be used in both 2U and tower cases for 400MHz FSB CPU boards.
