In the Adaptec RAID utility, there is information that Super GEM 318 is only SCSI-2 (not ultra 320), and is connected as 8-bit device. Is this correct?

Yes, the Qlogic SAF-TE chip is narrow bus only so it only supports SCSI-2 for SAF-TE function. This will not interfere with the total bus performance.
