Question
We purchased a couple SC847-E2 chassis this year. I found mentioned to check for a WWN ending in FF being the problem, and I found 2 WWNs on the front back plane, one had the FF, but the other had 7F. Is this the version I need the firmware update?

Answer
Before programmed, the expander's WWN number is 00007F or 0000FF depending on whether it's the primary or the secondary expander. (Note that, on a same EL2 backplane, there are two expanders for redundancy.) Before the chassis is shipped out, their WWN number will be programmed to something like "1234567f" or "123456ff," for example.

The WWN number will be always ended with "FF" or "7F" no matter what. As long as the front and rear backplanes in the same chassis don't have the same WWN number, it’s okay to use on the same RAID controller or the same SAS domain. You don’t need the firmware or MFG update at this moment.
