I have a H8DGG-QF motherboard and I would like to know how many power connections are required.

You need to hook up at least one 20-pin power connector to boot up the motherboard. You can also connect one more 8-pin 12v power if you have more loading. If you see the motherboard starts to boot but no video, you may want to check if you have the appropriate BIOS rev for your CPU.
